The John Frank Memorial Scholarship (JFMS) was established in 1995 to support young ceramic art pottery students who needed help to complete their educations.  John Frank admittedly could not have accomplished all that he did, or become all that he became, had he not received the generous help along the way of those who had the means to do so.  He therefore vowed that, when he became successful, he would encourage and financially support struggling students with the desire and the potential to make a difference for good in the art world.  And so he did many times over.  The Frankoma Family Collectors Association (FFCA) feels that it can do no less than follow his guidelines and parameters in its choice of scholarship recipients.   Since 1995 JFMS has awarded more than $35,500 to more than 25 young men and women.

Who is the sponsor of JFMS?

The JFMS program is sponsored by the Frankoma Family Collectors Association (FFCA), a national non-profit organization dedicated to the appreciation, preservation, and promotion of Frankoma Pottery as a collectible.  This scholarship is established in accordance with IRS guidelines for non-profit entities, and is funded by the proceeds from an annual auction of Frankoma Pottery donated by members of the FFCA and held each September at the annual national convention in Sapulpa, Oklahoma.

What are the Scholarships awarded for?

To assist students and to promote the study of American ceramic art pottery prior to the 1950’s.  The requirements are established to prompt the student applicant to more deeply explore an area of ceramic art history within a specific period.  It is the hope of FFCA that such an in depth study focused on the styles and techniques of earlier potters and designers will broaden the student applicants’ knowledge of American ceramic art pottery and increase their interest in the history of their craft.

How much is each Scholarship worth?
