 FFCA REUNION 2003

At Freddie’s Pavilion, 1425 New Sapulpa Road (Route 66)

Freddie's Pavilion is once again the site of our Frankoma Family Reunion. Freddie's is north of Sapulpa on Route 66 and the Pavilion is right behind Freddie's Steak House, next to the Super 8 Motel, which is within easy strolling distance.

This will be our ninth reunion! Once again we're doing everything we can to make it easy for you to see and do all the things you've come to see and do. We hope you'll find the schedule convenient and easy. If you have a suggestion that could help us improve Reunion 2004, we would be grateful if you'd drop it in the suggestion box at the front desk. After all---this is your show! Without you, there would be no reunions to plan for. We listen and do our best for you!

  FRANKOMA TOUR AND SHOPPING

At Frankoma Pottery Showroom, 2400 Frankoma Road

Friday morning begins bright and early at Frankoma Industries. We start off with a free Continental Breakfast hosted by Frankoma for all Reunion 2003 goers beginning at 7:00 a.m. The Frankoma showroom opens at 7:30 a.m. and tours of the Frankoma factory will be given from 8:00-10:00 a.m. only.

A hearty thanks to Kandy Steeples, Gene Gosvener, Mary King and Darlene Baldridge for their hospitality.

Be sure to be back at Freddie's Pavilion and in your seats by 10:00 a.m. for the Annual Membership Meeting!  The meeting should not last more than an hour.

THE FRANK HOME & METHODIST CHURCH TOURS

At Methodist Church, 1401 E. Taft  Members Only!

Tours - for members only - will be from 1:00-4:00 p.m. on Friday only, beginning at the church (1401 E. Taft), where there's a large parking area to leave your car. You'll go in and see the church first, and the ceramic cross that John Frank made and donated when the church was built. Then jitney buses or vans will be waiting to shuttle you from the church to the Frank home and back to the parking lot at your convenience (allow at least 1-1/2 hours for church and home). PLEASE DO NOT DRIVE YOUR CAR TO THE HOME AND PARK ON THE STREET. It's too narrow to be safe, and we would like to avoid congestion problems. Just park at the church and take the shuttle we've provided. Also, it's a dangerous crossing from the church to Luker Lane, with which our drivers are familiar, and only in this way can we assure your safety. (If handicapped, please indicate so on the registration form, and Donna will arrange special parking for you near the house.)

Members will be on their own to drive to the mausoleum at Green Hill Mortuary to see the ceramic miniatures created by Joniece for the marble facades, and also the stained glass window donated by the Frankoma employees "In Honor of the Boss Man." The mausoleum will be open for your viewing only on Saturday afternoon from 12:00-2:00. The map will get you there. (Allow 30-40 minutes from leave-to-return.)

In your registration packet, you'll receive a Guide to the Frank Home, which you'll want to read before Friday's tour. In this way, you can be your own guide and wander in and through and around the house at your leisure. This has proved to be the most enjoyable way to see the house, according to our guests of past reunions. We want you to feel welcome, and this will allow you plenty of time to spend in whatever areas you're attracted to, without having to "follow the crowd." Please make yourselves at home!

  SEMINARS 2003

At Freddie’s Pavilion, 1425 New Sapulpa Road (Route 66)  Members Only!

The seminars will be offered on FRIDAY and SATURDAY, as noted in the schedule. Seating is limited at all seminars and will be on a first-come basis.

"THE MAGIC POTTER'S WHEEL" -- Friday Only
DAVE GREER, Ceramic Artist and former student of Joe Taylor, demonstrates the magic of throwing on the potter’s wheel.  See how pottery has been made for thousands of years, and is still being made today.  Not to be missed, as it’s something so very special to see this master at work!

"ITEMS THAT ADVERTISE" -- Friday Only

BOB MCBAIN, Frankoma Author and Internet Expert will discuss the hottest collectibles -- advertising pieces.  Frankoma made hundreds of them, beginning in 1933 with a paperweight!

"FORM AND FUNCTION" -- Friday & Saturday

GIBB GREEN, Frankoma Author and FFCA past President, talks about functional pottery that's beautiful and also artistic.  Classic American Art Pottery is also utilitarian.

"FRANKOMA AS AN ARTIST'S CANVAS" -- Saturday Only

RAY STOLL, Past FFCA president will discuss painted Frankoma, unusuals, out-of-the-ordinaries, and "1-ers."  If you have anything that fits the category, please bring it along.

"EVERYTHING YOU EVER WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT FRANKOMA AND HAVEN'T ASKED" -- Saturday Only

JONIECE FRANK was President and CEO of Frankoma Pottery for Twenty years after her father's passing. But she was at his side from childhood, learning all steps of pottery making from the master himself. Joniece was Frankoma's sole Ceramic Designer from 1973-1996.  Joniece will present a follow-up on the article about why your favorite items were discontinued.  Some of the answers were not written, but should be discussed.  Also bring questions about anything that you always wanted to ask but never had the chance.

THE JOHN FRANK MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP DINNER

At Freddie’s Pavilion, 1425 New Sapulpa Road (Route 66)  Members Only!

The dinner will be at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Advance ticket purchase is necessary for this event! Those without reservations will have to take their chances. But if you're a latecomer, ask anyway, and we'll do our best to seat you.

This will be a very lovely sit-down dinner, with tablecloths and table decorations. The menus will include your choice of smoked filet steak or marinated and grilled boneless chicken breast dinners, both to include leaf salad with muffin, Freddie's famous tabouly, cabbage roll, baked potato, vegetable, rolls, desert, and ice tea and coffee. Choose the dinner you prefer, and check your choice on your Registration Form. (no changes thereafter please!)

THE JOHN FRANK MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP AUCTION 2003

At Freddie’s Pavilion, 1425 New Sapulpa Road (Route 66)  Members Only!

ALL AUCTION ITEMS MUST BE IN BY NOON FRIDAY, September 26th

The auction - for members only - will be held Friday at 7:00 p.m. All proceeds from the auction go directly to the John Frank Memorial Scholarship Fund.

All the items to be auctioned come from us, the members. Only Frankoma and Gracetone Pottery and related items (old Frankoma catalogues as an example) will be accepted.

All we ask is that your donations be clean and free of major defects. 100% of the proceeds from outright donations will go directly into the scholarship fund. Donations can be shipped to FFCA ahead of time, or even better, bring them with you and drop them off at the auction table when you register on Thursday or Friday. There is no minimum amount or minimum value required for donated items. If you plan to donate an item(s) for the auction, please fill out the "Auction Form" (enclosed) and return it with your registration.

Auction 2003 will also accept items on consignment. FFCA allows consignment items to enable those with valuable, rare and unusual pieces to realize a high price while giving our membership the chance to purchase outstanding items at auction. 40% of proceeds from consignment pieces will go into the scholarship fund, 60% will go to the consignor. Each item offered on consignment must have an INDIVIDUAL value of $50 or more (normal trade standards). Groups of items totaling $50 or more WILL NOT be accepted for consignment. Consignors are required to submit an "Auction Form" by August 19th deadline. All consignment items will necessarily be jurored (auction reps will determine if items qualify). Consignors will be responsible for labeling each consignment using FFCA guidelines (labels and simple instructions will be sent to you after we receive your Auction Form). Items to be consigned must arrive at the reunion clean and labeled-or they will not be accepted.

No pieces for consignment will be accepted without a completed and signed "Auction Form" (see enclosed Auction Form).

Many thanks in advance for your donations and your bids.

See you at Auction 2003!

Donations to FFCA are not deductible as Charitable Contributions
for Federal income tax purposes.

  SHOW & SELL 2003

At Freddie’s Pavilion, 1425 New Sapulpa Road (Route 66)

Exhibitors' set-up time will be 6:00 a.m.-8:00 a.m. on Saturday, breakfast available in the Garden Room at your cost. SHOW & SELL will be open Saturday 8:00 a.m.-10:00 a.m. for members only, and open to the public from 10:00 a.m. to closing at 3:00 p.m. Exhibitor tables may be rented, tablecloths included (see registration form), and locations will be assigned at random (there are no bad locations!).

Since our SHOW & SELL space is limited, we will first limit each membership to one table until August 15th. However, if you wish a second table, indicate so on your registration form, and include payment for both. If extra tables are available after the August 15th deadline, they will be allocated according to the results of a drawing of names. If there aren't enough tables, or if your name is not drawn to receive a second table, the money you have paid for your second table will be refunded.

Your table reservations will be confirmed in writing.

  THE FFCA COMMEMORATIVE 2003

The Commemorative 2003, as always, is designed by our Joniece Frank especially for FFCA. She continues to meet the challenge with an exciting and unique piece we can be proud of! This year, as last, Frankoma Industries will cast the items, and FRANK X 2 (Joniece and Donna) will glaze and fire them in a variety of their own colors—Bronze Green (PG), Very Black, Old Ivory and Terra Turquoise. The price will be $40 each, or 4 for $135 in your choice of colors.  We'll give you a hint—it's a Mayan-Aztec Clock.

The banquet tables will have unique centerpieces in keeping with our “Mayan-Aztec” theme.  There will be only 30 of these centerpieces produced.  They will be marked "FFCA 2003" and hand numbered, with an accompanying authentication.  These centerpieces will be auctioned to the highest bidders on Friday evening.

Thanks again, Joniece!
